Algebra is an Arabic Dialect

Seamus Ruth

Algebra molded in

Al-Khwarizmi’s hands

alchemic how the algorithm

flows from rigid structures as

Al-Biruni measured the star’s tethers; Algamest.

Ibn Al-Haytham gatewayed Galileo,

for he saw the world upside down,

fathering eyes further fostering modern optics.

Math is the thread in mosaics woven.

Golden is the Age

blooming in like roses

in wise houses.

Jubilate in tessellations

in an Arabic dialect that never needs translations.
