THE HYPERBOLIC REVIEW

Black Hole
Vitoria Ramos
space debris swept up in an invisible tide toward the bleak shape of her cavern
caught in her luminous halo of harnessed starlight. once upon many light
years ago, her first form was of a massive star. her countenance was
a crystal blue outshining every star in the galaxy. her heat
was incalculable. her heart never tired. an endless warriors
shield against the weight of gravity. a shifting swirl
of pressure in her chamber. a quickening pulse.
darkening blemishes across the purity of her brilliant
blue spread across her body. saturating her flame
in the deepest red. her heat diminished and
with it the mighty roar of her waves.
unable to soothe the chaos.
her heart became an iron
shell. growing weaker
with each beat.
exhausting her hydrogen fuel.
she reached out with dying embers.
every breath an agonizing ache.
the fierce hold of gravity upon her. with her last breath
her final ounce of fuel depleted she broke. scattering stardust across the galaxy
outshining one last time in her moment of death. shimmering phantom winds
burnt planets into crumbles. pushing stars into other stars.
her incandescence traveling at the speed of light.
her once glorious shine. all that remained
a vulnerable core. unable to cope
she started to sink.
curving the fabric
of space with
her grief.
deeper and
deeper
into
obscurity
collapsing
further
inward.
calling
to space
begging
it to take
her back
to the
beginning
when
every-
thing
was a
tiny
wand-
erer
on the
thres-
hold
of
for-
ever.
